Luna the Shih Tzu, the Dog of the Day
Name: Luna
Age: Three years old
Gender: Female Breed: Shih Tzu
Home: Manila, Philippines

Had I'd been too sad to go out, Luna wouldn't be with me right now and I wouldn't be here, either. You see, Luna, as fitting as her name is, became (still is, actually) a light in the dark for me. I found her when I was on an unplanned trip somewhere unknown to me. From the blur of the time I've spent there, I found myself talking to what seemed like an inexperienced breeder who was telling me about the only puppy left to him. He told me it had a serious case of skin disease and he was planning on putting it to sleep as the medication was expensive and they weren't even sure if the puppy could take it.

He then took me to see it, and it - having learned her name was Luna, quickly stole my heart despite her (almost dying) state. What she did, and I could never forget, was kind of like tap-danced sideways with her front paws (probably the only motion that didn't hurt) in her cage upon seeing me. I stuck in my hand and she immediately pushed her head onto my palm and rested it there. There was nothing in my plan to get a dog with what the situation of my life was at that moment, but I took the chance because I saw in Luna the love and joy you wouldn't think there should be when things aren't exactly in your favour.

To make a long story short, Luna came home with me and we started her treatment which lasted for almost a year. All the while, she continued to bravely smile her way to recovery which helped me a lot in my own. Now, she's a very active dog, running around madly and never quite staying put for a decent photo, but she still holds on to the title of a lap dog when a lap is presented (though sometimes, she demands it).

Her fur is kept short (at times, shaved off completely) due to her condition which is such a shame because she has pretty hair. She also can't be outside that much, but loves it when she has the chance to. Despite all the little complications, it doesn't seem to bother her at all! She just smiles and somewhat says with her expression, "Life's good, why worry?"

She enjoys a good game of fetch which sometimes turn into a tugging game when she decides she likes the toy too much. She makes funny faces that I never can quite document but I guess, they are for the purpose of laughter which she does love the sound of. In quiet moments, my darling dog knows how provide her company until she's convinced you that everything will be okay.

Luna's become a huge part of my life, and it warms my heart to know that I am in hers too - much more than I could imagine, probably - and that's what makes her pretty darned special to me.
