Hi, this is Billy, my furry son and best friend. We took him home when he was two months old, now he's three years; I'm sending some pictures showing his growth, from a little pup to this wonderful sheltie (albeit a bit oversized, 17kg is his regular weight)!
My two teenage kids had been asking us for a dog for a long, long time; I'm so glad we finally made up our minds, for he is the heart and soul of our family.
I confess that we became interested in the breed, first and foremost, for the looks of a "small Lassie;" however, once we got to know his personality, his temperament, everybody at home was definitely hooked. That is much more important than his looks.
I had an unforgettable poodle toy for more than 17 years, my furry brother, and used to think thought that raising and having another dog would be a piece of cake, given my experience – oh boy, was I wrong! He's a wonderful friend, a tendency to bark notwithstanding (he's really quite vocal, I understand this is a common Sheltie trait). He's super nice and friendly, both to people and to other dogs.
To us, his humans, he is very affectionate but not 'clingy'; for instance, he will sit by your side, you in the sofa and him on the floor, and ask for a good head rub (he loves all kinds of rubs). He will spend the night on the floor, but will jump to our bed right before day break...
He loves long walks (and I mean really long), both in the street and especially in parks; sometimes he still pulls the leash a lot, we are trying to train him better about it. He hates motorcycles and noisy vehicles in general (buses, garbage trucks, vans, etc). He knows how to sit, to give his paws, to hi-5 and to stay.
We play with him every day, throwing balls and also tug of war, which he loves. He likes to chew those donut-shaped fake 'bones' and play with plush toys, especially those with a PET bottle inside. He is very curious about the world, likes to explore, to sniff, to get in contact with nature.
I love him so very much, more than words can say!
