Finn the Bichon Frise, the Dog of the Day
Name: Finn
Age: Two years oldd
Gender: Male Breed: Bichon Frise
Home: Reno, Nevada, USA

Finn is a two-year-old Bichon Frise. He lives in Reno, Nevada with two retired people. He came to us from a breeder. He is our second Bichon. We bought our first Bichon, Einstein, after having two German Shepherds. We were looking for a small non-shedding dog and after doing some research chose a Bichon. Einstein was a perfect dog....a big dog in a small dog body.

Two years after his death we decided we needed another Bichon in our lives. Finn is that dog. He has all the traits we love in a Bichon: loving; lively; happy; fun-loving; active; adaptable; mischievous; lots of stamina for hiking; playful with other people and dogs; and he is cute; cute; cute. Because they have hair, not fur (which is why they don't shed) he gets haircuts, so his look gets to change all the time! He makes us smile all day! We love him!

Every time we come home he greets us excitedly. He cuddles with us in bed and wakes us up with doggy kisses in the morning. That unconditional love sure feels good!

He pretty much goes with the flow with whatever we are doing whether that is hanging out, hiking, or driving for errands. But, he does need his walks for exercise and checking pee-mails around the neighborhood every day and will run full speed around the house up and over furniture, if he doesn't get them or when he is particularly happy. We call this his "Mr. Frisky" behavior which he also does after every bath. Luckily, he is easy to bathe in the kitchen sink.

He will dance on his hind legs for treats and can hold his own playing rough with my mother's German Shepherd, Abby, who puts his entire head in her jaws! He can hike or run long distances like a big dog, too. He knows the names of his dog playmates around the neighborhood and will run to their respective residences when we tell him to go play with Brisco or Jerry. He's not too big on fetch, losing interest after a few minutes, but loves playing tug or keep away.

He does have a bad habit of chewing spectacles and sunglasses and we have lost approximately 20 pair in two years! We always thought one of the advantages of a smaller dog is that you can pick them up if they are not behaving, but Finn has often proved to be too quick to catch. We got him as a pup at three months old and the breeder said, "He's a good eater and a good sleeper, but he can be a little stinker!" She was right, in that he demands and needs attention like a child, but the affection and fun he has given us makes it all worth it.
