Lily the Labrador, Collie cross, the Dog of the Day
Name: Lily
Age: Six years old
Gender: Female Breed: Labrador, Collie cross
Home: Skye and Lochalsh, Scotland, UK

Lily is a sweet Labrador collie cross. She is six years old and has not aged mentally in the slightest. We live in the Scottish Highlands together in the Skye and Lochalsh area. Her name Lily comes from the flower and of course sharing the family name of Jones.

It is not hard to talk about how special she is to me she is a shoulder to cry on when I am sad and need company, and is always there for me when i'm lonely. Yes, she is an idiot, but I love her anyway as I know she is just trying to show her appreciation and tries to bring a smile to my face. Ever since myself and my family moved up here to Scotland I had been lonely, as I had to leave people I care about family and friends behind. But I was saved when I got her when she was just a pup at the SSPCA when we were staying at my grandparents place whilst the place was getting sorted to move into as my grandparents were away.

She was part of a large litter and her owners had not known their dog was pregnant and did not want the mixed breeds (they are really missing out here). .I picked her out from the bunch for her white diamond shape on her head that later became more of a smudge. Her brothers sadly had a heart problem and would not live too long so we could not adopt one of them also.

But she is happy with me her mistress and the rest of the family, jumping up when I get back from school for hugs offering me a paw to show she cares when I am by myself and trying to lick my hand whilst I stroke her to return the affection. I will always love her just as she loves me. She lies down beside me on my bed or sometimes under it, keeping me company through the night. I would not be the same without her there by my side.

Though she does not look it her barks are more of a yap really, and she is overprotective of us barking at the slightest sound of someone approaching like a car slowing down as it drives past as it might have to let someone past as it is a single road. She enjoys the occasional pizza crust and long walks in the woods by where we live, along with trying to catch stones that we throw into the water for her trying to dig them up from the ground once it has landed in the water, tearing away at seaweed to try and reach her prize.

A bit of a funny and strange story was when my mum was out walking her in the woods and at first she thought she was carrying a long stick but it turned out it was a deer leg freaking her out slightly and trying to move away from her which of course she followed after her happily and rather proudly always putting the leg away before we put her back into the car hiding it away so we could not get rid of it. This meant it slowly became nothing more than torn off bits of flesh on the bone before it vanished eventually and no more lego (as we called it) for a while. But she found another one followed swiftly by a head and chasing my mum about with it freaking her out as she tried to run away from the dog carrying a deer head. We still have no idea how she got them and where she hides them though.

All in all we love her and could not wish for more even if my mum constantly complains about her, calling her "Dorito head" to her face, and "fluffy in the head." Only for us to point out the reason she is so difficult with her is because she says these things about her, and decides to treat her like an idiot back, with Lily getting her revenge by pulling on the lead.

And that is the story of my dog and her silly stupid ways that I can't help but love.

From Eleanor Jones and her dog Lily that is currently resting right next to me as I type.
