This is my girl Toffee. I have had the Toffster around 10 years or so. She was found by my country mouse friend who sort of has a neon sign attracting all sorts of critters. She even built nice kennels for some of the dogs, as she can't, won't have up to 10 dogs at a time roaming thru the house.
We think Toffee was born feral, and it took six months for Friend to gentle her. I was looking for a companion dog for an elderly female dog. She told me she had just the dog for me. I went out and met her. It was a match, so I brought her home with me. She was called Penelope, but I switched her name to Toffee because she is so sweet. Toffee is a very good dog, but she is very clingy. She was very shy, and managed to escape the very night I brought her home. In doing so, she excited the pit bull living across the street, who was chained in the front yard. Sadly, he broke free, and gave chase, and was hit by a car. I discovered her a day later on the pound page, and went to rescue her. She soon took to me and my elderly dog, who died a year or two later.
Since then, Toffee amazingly doesn't like female dogs at all. She is fine with males, but no girls. I like to keep two dogs just so they have someone of their own species. She won't play with any toys, doesn't understand the concept, but maybe could do agility. Toffee is a very good dog, but she is very clingy.
Toffee would be perfect if only she didn't hate my cats so much. I do not like to leave them alone in the house together, but I can - and do - keep them separated. They are pretty safe in the house, but one goes outside, and she will attack anything in the yard. So Dickens goes out under my strict supervision, mostly when she is in the house. I believe she is quite jealous of them as they are allowed on the furniture, and have litter boxes. Due to her being feral, she is still terrified of thunderstorms, and acts like the Wicked Witch of the West in the rain.
