I rescued Pennie in July, 2012, three years after I lost my Kornflake that I had for 14 years. I wanted another dog, but waited until I saw the right one. Pennie was that one and it was her last chance to be adopted.
She came to me from Dahlonega, Georgia, a dog rescue group there, and with full blown heartworm. The vet gave me a choice, "Treat it or put her down." Over $1,000 and five years later, she's heartworm negative and still as crazy as when I first got her. She loves people, and because of her I've made a lot of new friends. When I walk her, people come over to me and ask if they can pet her and comment on how beautiful she is. And she's only too happy to get the attention; in fact, if someone walks by and ignores her, she barks at them to come back and see her! She's also responsible for me taking walks. Sadly, as I get older and my pain increases, our walks are shorter, but I can toss her toys and she'll bring them back, or play tug of war with her. I love this big mutt to bits!!
