Gracie the Australian Shepherd, the Dog of the Day
Name: Gracie
Age: Eleven years old
Gender: Female Breed: Australian Shepherd
Home: Springfield, Massachusetts, USA

My name is Gracie and I am a blue merle Australian Shepherd. My Mom and Dad got me when I was 10 weeks old from Montrose Australian Shepherds. It's very far from where we live now. I'm so glad that my Mom picked me. There were so many to choose from, cuz I had a lot of brothers and sisters. Now I have two mini American Eskimo brothers, Oliver and Sebastian, and 1 mini American Eskimo sister, Sadie. I also have my very own Maine Coon Cat. His name is Pooks and we really love each other. We all get along great, but I think it's becuz I'm a real easy going kinda girl. I don't like drama! I just luv to play...oh, and eat. I love to eat. I especially love treats, but my favorite thing is people food, mainly chicken. I luv it when Mom or Dad make chicken, I could just eat it all. One time, I even tried to...I ate everything off Dad's plate when he walked away from it and left it there. It's like it was calling my name, "Gracie...oh Graaaccieeee, come and eat me." So, I did. I got into a little bit of trouble though...Daddy was not a happy Daddy. He said I was a bad girl and I didn't like that. So, I don't eat Mom or Dad's food anymore unless they give it to me. I'm not a bad girl anymore, now they always tell me what a good girl I am.

I think the most special thing about me is my eyes. Even the breeder couldn't believe the way my eyes are colored. You see, each eye is half brown and half blue. Everyone who meets me always says I'm gorgeous, especially my eyes, and, I'd have to agree with them!

My Mom took me to puppy class when I first came home. I loved it and Mom always tells everyone how I "excelled" in class ... I don't know what that means, but I hope it's good! I also went to beginner obedience class, and again, passed with "flying colors." Mom's words again (I know, she uses weird words). After that class, Mom thought I would do well in yet another class so I could be certified which means I get to go and visit sick kids in the hospital and elderly people in nursing homes. I wizzed through that class and I was the first dog to pass the night of the test AND I was the youngest to pass the test. Mom was actually beaming with pride that night. I knew I did good too! I haven't actually gone to see any sick or elderly people, hmmm, I wonder why. After all, I could sit on their lap like I do Mom's and lean against their legs, like I do Mom's. I'm not that big and I don't jump on people that often, only when I'm happy to see them. Mom says I only weight 60 lbs ... so it's not like I won't fit on everyone's lap! I'll have to remind her that I can go to those places and see if she'll take me. I hope so.
