Annie the Chinese Crested mix, the Dog of the Day
Name: Maggie
Age: Seven years old
Gender: Male Breed: Yorkshire Terrier, Chihuahua mix
Home: Clarksville, Tennessee, USA
This is Mary Magdalene or Maggie for short. She is mostly Yorkie but one of her great grandparents was a Chihuahua. After her Mom lost her beloved cat, Nicodemus, in 2012, she needed something to fill the void. She decided that another cat could never live up to the standard set by Nicodemus and that she would like to have a dog. The household had not had a dog for about fifteen years. Now Dad did not want a dog. The have to be walked, rain or shine, and can't be left alone for any prolonged amount of time. Mom continued her search for a dog and was constantly checking sites on-line for the perfect puppy. In February, 2013 she found the one she was looking for. She was pictured sitting in a red solo cup next to a heart shaped St. Valentine's pillow. Mom immediately called about the puppy and was heartbroken to find out that she was already spoken for. She just knew that puppy was meant for her. The next day she received the call that the woman who had wanted her had changed her mind and the puppy was available. Later that day Mom and Dad set out for Kentucky to see this little darling. Dad still didn't want a dog.

Well, Maggie came home with us that day and early the next week she was taken to our vet for a complete checkup. She was tested for the PARVO virus and was found to be positive for the disease. This was heartbreaking news! For the next week Maggie spent each day with the vet being medicated and given fluids. At night Mom and Dad would bring her home and watch over her to ensure she did not go into seizure. The next morning she would bg back to the vet for the day. After a week she was given a clean bill of health and that scare was over.

Maggie has truly been a delightful little dog. She is smart, trains easily and was housebroken with minimal accidents. She gets along well with her cat sisters, Esther and Hannah. It has been fun watching her grow up and learn and experience new things. She travels well locally and has taken long trips out of state to Missouri, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas. Mom makes clothes for her and she has quite a wardrobe. She gets excited when she sees Mom get one of her dresses because she knows she is going somewhere. She enjoys going to several local stores because she has her fans there that give her dog treats. Mom take her pretty much everywhere she goes.

Maggie likes people but is not too crazy about other dogs. I don't think she identifies as a dog. Even though Dad didn't want a dog, Maggie shares her attention between both Mom and Dad. She is a true lap dog and is in someones lap all the time. When the time comes to go to bed, Maggie sleeps on Dad's arm or under his chin. So Dad now has a dog. As Mom points out, she may be Dad's dog but she is Mom's little girl.
