Jackie
is looking for work outside the Broward County Courthouse,
Fort Lauderdale, Florida in this promotional photo taken for my trial
exhibits business. The photo was printed on a postcard that went out
to law offices in the area.
Her Favorite Job: She's been bringing in the newspaper every morning
since she was a tiny puppy. Because she is extremely gentle, she
doesn't even break the plastic bag. She does have trouble with the
big Sunday papers, though. Sometimes she can't fit them into her
mouth very well... but she always manages.
Second Favorite Job: Telling me the mailman is here. She runs up to
me with an excited whine and looks toward the front door. I go to the
door, let her out and she runs over to greet the mail carrier. Then
she rushes back to me and we go to the kitchen to get her a treat.
Oddest Behavior: Whenever someone comes to the house, she grabs a
toy, holds it in her mouth and stays about 15 feet away, as if to
taunt them. She never brings them the toy.
Her Greatest Fear: Being taken from me. Whenever someone puts a leash
on her, she's afraid they're going to take her away, so she runs over
and hugs up to me just as tight as she can. Very cute! Last year,
when a back problem had me flat on the floor for two weeks, a
friend's son wanted to take her for a walk. As soon as he hooked up
the leash, she raced over, got on the opposite side of me and
wouldn't move. We eventually coaxed her out the door, but she pulled
the kid all the way around the block in her rush to get back home.
(This fear seems to result from her being left at the vet's for a few
days. They took her away on a leash.)
Her Second Greatest Fear: Thunderstorms. She cowers and shakes and
gets real close.
Favorite Toy: Her soft frisbee.
Second Favorite Toy: The red squeaky
ball with the rubber spikes on it.
Best Display Of Obedience: She won't touch a piece of food until I
say "go ahead." One day I fed her while I was helping a neighbor with
a problem. Ten minutes later I heard her whining quietly. I looked
into the kitchen and she was still standing by her food bowl waiting
for permission to eat. I guess I had forgotten to say the magic words
because of the distraction.
Tricks: Roll over, give me your paw, get the frisbee, get the leash,
stay. When I am at my parents' house, she tells me she has to go
outside by bringing me her leash, which I leave on the floor for just
that purpose.
Personality: Extremely patient, obedient, calm and gentle. Stays
close by all day as I work in my home office.
Favorite Game: Taunt the Owner. When I come back into the house, she
grabs a toy, stands in the living room and I make a big deal out of
chasing her, as if I'm trying to grab the toy. I yell, she runs, I
chase. She runs into the bedroom, and sticks her head under the end
of the bed. I pretend I can't find her, even though 90 percent of her
is in plain sight, and I walk away. End of game. We do this every
time I come home!
Favorite Daytime Snoozing Spot: Head stuck under the bed. To sum it
all up, I think Jackie is the perfect dog!
Jackie has now been incorporated into the home page of my business
web site.
