Here
is one of my kids, Boomer. I have two dogs and two cats, Rosie,
Jones, Boomer and Tucker. Boomer is particularly special... My
husband and I had one dog, Rosie, a German Shorthair/Springer Spaniel
Mix and a tortoiseshell cat named Jones. We were on the lookout for
a hound, as they tend to be dogs that do not adopt out as they are
demanding in their need for exercise and generally thought of as poor
in the obedience category.
The Marin Humane Society phoned us to tell us that they had a ten week
old Bloodhound/Plott Hound mix, male and red brindle in color. I
phoned them after hours and endured a five minute voice mail message
and finally got through to the party I needed to tell them to hold
the dog for us.
When my husband arrived at the shelter, there was a woman in front of
him that indicated that she was there to claim the puppy. My
husband's heart sank. The employee at the Humane Society informed
the woman that there was a hold on the dog from the Anderson family,
and my husband immediately piped up that would be me! And I received
the best birthday present I would ever get, Boomer.
When he saw Boomer, he fell in love immediately. We took him home,
much to the chagrin of the woman in line. Boomer had been mistreated
by his previous owner. They had tied him up and chastised him for
baying, a natural behavior of a Bloodhound/Plott Hound. After much
love and training, he has become a wonderful addition to our animal
family. He goes hiking on our hill with us and our dog Rosie. He is
very protective of myself and the two small members of our pack, our
cats Jones and Tucker. I couldn't imagine our home without him.
