Spike
will be five on Halloween Day and, as you can see
from his picture, is the Great Pumpkin every year. Spike has had a
rough year - he had to have knee surgery recently and just starting
walking again. He is a real trooper and the love of my life.
Spike goes to all the neighbors' houses on our street and does a
little trick-or-treating. He is the hit of the street and everyone
gets a kick out of seeing the dog in the costume. This year Spike is
going to be Superman, complete with cape, big S and utility belt.
Spike had luxating patella surgery for a congenital problem with his
knee and hobbled around on three legs for about six weeks. He is good
as new now and you would never be able to tell he had the problem.
Expensive surgery, but worth it. Boston Terriers are prone to this
condition; however, they can be tested as a puppy to see if they have
it and not all Boston Terriers develop such a bad case.
Each night when I come home from work Spike greets
me as if I have been gone for a year and only wants a pet on the head
and a hello from me - too bad the rest of the world couldn't be
pleased that easily. I have a magnet on my refrigerator that
constantly reminds me to be the best I can be. It says "I hope
that I can be the kind of person my dog thinks I am."
