If
anyone has a basset hound, you know that they are "legends in their
own minds." Leonardo DiCaprio may have thought he was "king of the
world" in "Titanic", but Macaroni is the "king of the universe."
Macaroni was a Christmas gift from my husband. We searched high and
low for a male basset hound in the cold December weather in NY, and
found him on Dec. 24, 1989. He has brought nothing but joy and laughter
into our lives.
When we moved to Florida in 1990, Macaroni acclimated with no problem.
He quickly became the most popular "person" in the neighborhood. All
the children and adults in our neighborhood know Macaroni. They always
stop us when we are walking Macaroni (which I might add, is no less than
three times a day), so they can pet him and say hello. Macaroni is always
quick to accommodate his adoring fans.
Macaroni is quite the picture hound. Each year we send our friends and
family the annual Christmas picture of Macaroni. Every year has a theme.
Since his "dad" is quite the hunter, 1997 was the year of the hunting
hound.
If you are thinking about getting a basset hound, don't hesitate. Yes,
they can be stubborn and they are not known for their high IQ, but they
give new meaning to the phrase "man's best friend."
