My
name is Skadi. My mom and dad said I was named after the
Viking Goddess of Winter. I don't really know what that means, but I
like my name! My mom always tells me: "Skadi, be a Lady!"
My psychic, Lydia Hiby, told my mom that I am a very new soul, a
first time personality and that I am very rare. I live in the moment
and was put on this earth to gain experiences. I will eat anything
once, just to see what it tastes like. I really like raw carrots and
broccoli. I tried raw ginger once and it was hot! I popped a hole in
my mom's flax seed eye mask and ate a bunch of flax seeds - they
made me poop a lot! Probably won't do that again!
Early this winter my mom would put on these funny little
shoes and grab these long pointy things and stomp outside then glide
away and leave me here with this big white fluffy thing they call a
cat. He's not a cat! Just like I told Lydia, he told me he's mom and
dad's Guardian Angel and he was put on this earth for more lofty
things than to play with me. He's very old! He's nice but he's not a
cat! Well, anyway, mom used to leave me here for a couple hours
and come home all sweaty and gross. When I would hear her gliding up
to the deck I would get ten kinds of wiggly and squeak. One day she
looked at me when she got home and asked me if I wanted to pull her.
I didn't know what that meant but I did my wiggly thing and she got
out this cool purple shirt/vest thing and put it on me. It is very
cool. It feels good and every time I see it I get wiggly. She told me
this thing is my pack. So... with me in my pack and mom in her funny
shoes, we stomped out to the edge of the deck. She put the long
pointy things on her feet, clipped my leash into my pack and said:
"Skadi, pull your mom!" I didn't get it, but I was so wiggly to be
outside with my mom that I started running - really fast! It made
mom get all wiggly and giggly, too. She kept telling me to pull her
and I just kept running. Weeeeeeeee! It's fun! We ran for about an
hour! We both came home all sweaty and gross.
That night, when dad got back from the guitar shop, (he is a
luthier - a stringed-instrument builder) mom told him that she was
teaching me to ski jour. Which is like dog sledding with only one dog
and no sled - the doggy just pulls somebody on skis (those are
the long pointy things). He didn't believe her. So... the next day we
took him out and I pulled him. He had the ride of his life! He
hooted and hollered like a wild man!!! He loved it. Now we go
skijouring all the time.
My favorite part of skijouring is that I'm the only doggy
out there and all the skiers love me. They pet me, ask me what's in
my pack and ask if they can have a ride, too. Mom always laughs and
says she should rent me out - whatever that means!
I love winter and snow. Maybe mom and dad knew that and that's
why they named me Skadi, for the Nordic Goddess of Winter.
When it is not winter, we have a rushing High Sierra creek and I
like to swim! I am quite a retriever! I have a dead-ringer look
alike pal who lives on the next acre and we play almost all day! We
share a little dolly that is (or should I say was) a stuffed monkey
named "Dolly" and we rip her to shreds! I am told we are darling together!
