About Us
Duchess, the Dog of the Day
Name: Duchess
Age: Three years old
Gender: Female
Breed: Golden Retriever, Chow, Shepherd
Home: Texas, USA

Here is Duchess telling you about herself: "I'm the special dog around here. I was a foster pup and I was kept because I was sick. The adoption center wanted to PMTS (that's in code). My mom, dad, kid, and vet wouldn't hear of it, so here I am an 80 pound lap puppy at the age of three. I like being a lap puppy but I don't think anyone else likes it. Mom says that because I'm a mix of retriever, chow, and shepherd, mostly retriever, I'll always be a pup. I get to have a lot of fun!!"

"One time mom and dad planted this soft, green stuff in our yard. Just like the stuff out front and in all the yards around us. Well I know that dad really doesn't like the color green so I thought I'd help out. I ate it!! I really did!! I tore it apart and chewed it all up! No more green stuff in our yard. Nope, not with me on duty. Then mom complained that when it rained a lot and we went outside that we would bring in all the mud from the yard. Well I had a great idea!! I was moving the back yard! Yep, I started moving it right onto the driveway. I knew that would help. How can we bring in mud from the yard if it's on the driveway? Have you ever tried to move a yard? No matter how much of it I moved there was always more underneath.   It's real neat when it rains because then I can play in the mud and the water in the holes. I had to work real hard at moving trees. Okay just one tree. Actually it was just a giant tree limb but it's still a tree. It fell on the garage and Dad moved it out of the way in the yard. I thought it would look prettier up by the door so I moved it there. Dad turned it into a game. He would move it where he wanted it and I would move it back. He told me not to move the tree anymore but I told him that I was having fun and I moved it anyway."

"Just remember when you're talking back to your mom or dad to look real cute when you do it. My two favorite games - I really like these. The first one: I go to the door and bark like I really need to go out. Then when mom or dad opens the door I back up and bow!! And bark a few times. Then I jump up on them so that they will pet me. Okay the second game: when my daddy is sleeping, his alarm clock will go off and he'll hit the snooze button. Well, I get him up and out of bed to let me out then I take his place in bed!"
