Spike
is a very special little guy. When I adopted him, he was very,
very sick. He had an ailment that is called a pyloric stenosis...he
was unable to keep food down and was slowly starving to death. I took
him to our local veterinarian and he said the chances of operating
and saving the life of such a small, fragile animal (two pounds) was
a 50/50 shot, but without the surgery, his fate was sure death. So, I
took the chance on the surgery. After four hours of surgery, many
stitches, and five days of waiting, I brought Spike home. His
recuperation period was approximately three months; during which time
he had to be fed special foods and was on two different
medications. But he survived! The surgery was a success...and
he is now three years old and the most devoted, adoring dog any human
could ever ask for! When I think about the amount of money that
it cost me to keep this little "adoptee" alive, all I have
to do is look at him sitting in the window when I come home from work
at nigh...and see that love in his eyes when I come through the front
door...Spike will always be my Dog of the Day!
He's a very pampered pup... the absolute love of my life! Wherever I
go, this little guy is right on my heals! When I retire for the
evening, he is right there too! His "bean bag" is right
beside my bed... and there he plops! He weighs in at a whopping eight
almost nine pounds now! I think he looks great just the way he is! He
is so sweet! He doesn't have a mean bone in his little body! And he
really does well in the Maine winters! His little "pads" on
his feet get really cold quickly, so I make "mad dashes" to
grab him when I see him stop in his tracks when it's freezing out!
(My neighbors laugh at me because I have run out in stocking feet
before to "save" him from freezing his pads! LOL) and he
does have a sweater....but hates it!
