This
is Kelly, the dog who adopted us. She used to be the
neighborhood dog and all the kids knew her. She belonged to neighbors
down the street. We live on a lake and one day she showed up to go
for a boat ride. She loved it so much she kept coming back day after
day. When we would get home from work, there she would be waiting in
our driveway. We also have two cats, so we didn't know if we should
let her in the house at all. She gradually won the cats confidence
over too. So Kelly would spend the evenings with us and then we would
send her home, (so we thought) our neighbors would go by the house
and see her sleeping in our driveway at night. Then one day our
subdivision had their annual garage sale of which we always
participated in. This girl came up to me and said "are you the
one that always kisses Kelly's head and leaves a lipstick mark on
her?" Guilty I said. That's when she told me Kelly had heart worm
(which can be fatal) and the neighbors were not going to have Kelly
treated. So my husband called the owner up and asked her, if she was
not going to have Kelly treated, would she mind if we took her to the
Vet. The lady said that she "can't be bothered with Kelly and
they would be going away on trips. So if you would like to keep
Kelly, you can have her." She has been with us now for seven and
a half years and she truly is the love of our lives.
