When
we purchased Sammy, we were very ignorant owners. She was bought
from a pet store and we knew little about puppy mills, dog ownership,
training and especially about the breed which we just purchased - a four
month old Border Collie puppy!
She was a typical Border Collie puppy. Very energetic and needed a
lot of attention. Since we were not prepared for this she decided
that eating furniture and taking laps around our house at full speed
would suffice! After seeing that we had made a mistake by purchasing
her, we were considering placing her in a more suitable home. But,
since I was determined to keep her. I bought books on the breed and
enrolled us in obedience classes.
I found out that she needed a job to do and needed
a lot of exercise. We made ball playing her "job" and
exercise means for the day. With that and some training she went on
to be a great dog and family pet. She earned obedience and agility
titles which shocked everyone who knew her from a puppy. I am very
proud to own her today. She is retired from "work" and now
leads a lovely life. With me and her "soccer balls." Gotta
love it!
