My
dog, Deuce, is not your typical tail-wagger! She was born in North
Pole, Alaska, and was brought to us on a motorcycle. Ever since, she
loves to ride motorcyles, four-wheelers, anything that travels! She
doesn't take to many people (turns up her nose at them), but when she
likes someone she really-really likes them. She's a proud animal and
doesn't like to let on that she needs anyone. The spots on her nose
are the result of frostbite -- when we left her at a kennel while we
went on a trip to the lower 48, she went outside her kennel area into
the run and wouldn't come back in. The care provider said she didn't
eat the entire time we were gone and stayed outside in minus 20
degree temperatures, obviously because she missed us so much. Deuce
is very protective and makes a good watch dog, having once scared off
some would-be thieves. The waterbed is her favorite sleeping place!
Deuce is half Labrador Retriever and half wolf. She is really large
with long legs and big feet with lots of tufts of hair under them.
Her ears do really strange things, like go sideways (we call them her
airplane ears when she does that because she looks like she's getting
ready to take off). She can stick one straight up and flip the other
over forward or move them at really crazy angles. She is very
protective and extremely selective about whom she likes! If she
doesn't like someone she puts up her hackles and they stand up
really, really tall and run all the way to the tip of her tail. When
she does that she is a scary sight! She either loves you or totally
dislikes you, has no in-between. Deuce is certainly not your
every-day dog. She is very proud, refuses to ever do a trick for a
treat, and if you ask her to do one, rather than get the treat, she
gives you a "you gotta be kidding!" look and walks away!
Deuce is an important part of our family and we love her dearly. We
have two other dogs also, all house dogs. They're our kids and we
love 'em all!
