Home: Merrimack, New Hampshire, USA

Hi there! My name is Cairo and I'm a two-year-old female Greyhound. two and a half months ago I was rescued from a race track, where I used to run. Running on a track was all I ever knew and I thought I liked it... until I discovered what it was like to be someone's pet! Now I have my own home, my own bed and toys, and my own mom. I even have my very own kitty! Adjusting to a house was strange. There are all sorts of new sounds and items I've never encountered before, like vacuum cleaners and furniture. My mom had to teach me how to walk up and down the stairs. I had no trouble going up when I was chasing the cat, but once at the top I was confused about how to get down. Now I run up and down like a pro, sometimes taking two or three stairs at a time! It didn't take me long to get used to all these new things and now I can't remember ever living anywhere else. On weekends my mom brings me to a puppy play group where I get to run and play with other dogs. I race all around and show off in front of the other dogs. It's so much fun! I also like to play with the kitty and sometimes I'll let him eat from my bowl. We've become good friends, and now and then he lets me use his behind as a pillow. I'm not sure why, but this always makes my mom crack up. Most of the time, I am a big couch potato. I curl up with my stuffed cow and sleep for hours. Mom actually has to wake me up to take me outside for a walk. Having my very own person is so nice. I'm living the puppyhood I never had... and now I only run when I want to!

I've been wanting to adopt a greyhound for about ten years now and I just purchased my first home a few months ago. I couldn't even wait three weeks before I ran out and got a dog! For years I had heard what wonderful dogs they were and now I know everything I heard was true. When I went to the greyhound placement service all the dogs were great, but Cairo was by far the sweetest, calmest and the prettiest. She came up to me, and rested her head on the inside of my arm as if to say she was choosing me. That did it!
