About Us
Haskal, the Dog of the Day
Name: Haskal
Age: Deceased, Fifteen years old
Gender: Male Breed: Pomeranian
Home: Duluth, Georgia, USA

We adopted Haskal when he was two months old and weighed approximately one pound. He looked and acted like a wind-up toy. He had two "big" sisters, one a poodle and one a Himalayan cat, who comforted him, played with him and taught him "the ropes". From the beginning, he knew he was special in our family! Haskal slept on the bed with me with his head on the pillow and blanket around his neck, just like a real person, often giving unsolicited kisses in the middle of the night.

Haskal had an understanding of 35-40 words and as any pomeranian owner knows, he was very smart. My daughter was taking a college marketing class and needed to make a speech, or a college level "show & tell." Her subject was Pomeranians. Haskal went to the University of Georgia and as my daughter gave her speech, he went up and down each row of students, introducing himself, and went to the professor last. Had she known it would have played out like this, my daughter would have tied a bright red apple to his collar to give to the professor. Incidentally, my daughter received a grade of "B" and Haskal received an "A."

Haskal came to live with us the day after Thanksgiving, 1982, and passed on to "Pet Heaven" the day after Thanksgiving, 1997. We truly had a six pound baby for fifteen years.
