Moses'
approximate age is ten years old. He is a beautiful little
mixed breed, weighing sixteen pounds. He lives in Kentucky, USA with
his family whom he adores and loves (and of course they think he's
the best!)
We think Moses deserves to be Dog of the Day because he survived the
odds. His story goes like this... One cold March night on my
husband's birthday we went out to eat as we do for family tradition.
The restaurant we chose was located in the vicinity of a large
shopping mall. After our meal, we were driving around back of the
mall and my husband spotted this "ball of fur" shivering in
the cold night air. "That's a little dog" he exclaimed. So
we slowly approached the little pup and he had obviously been in the
elements for quite some time. His coat was dirty and weather beaten
and he had motor oil on the top of his back from seeking refuge under
cars in the parking lot, eating chicken bones. We could see that he
had encountered a lot of difficulty in just trying to survive. My
husband determined that the dog had no ID so we carefully loaded him
in our van, not knowing if the poor thing was a he or she.
We brought him home, bathed him, determined he was a he and promptly
checked the local paper for Lost and Found. No pup was listed there
that matched his description. We advertised him in Lost and Found,
but there were no responses. Our family decided it was time to give
the little fellow a home and a name. Our boys came up with
"Moses" because we found him "wandering in the
wilderness." A trip to the vet concluded that our Moses was in
good health, and approximately one year old.
That was nine happy years ago, and Moses has been and continues to be
an absolutely, wonderfully devoted dog. He is very charming and
talented, and loves toys. He is very much a part of our family--he
thinks he is a person, as you can see he loves to sun in our pool on
a raft! So, no offense to people who love and choose pedigreed dogs,
but our little homeless Moses is priceless.
