We
found Barney wandering around my office building about ten years
ago. By offering him a piece of my submarine sandwich, it was easy to
entice him to join our family. As you can see, he hasn't missed many
meals since!
Barney is very loyal and protective, as are most Chihuahuas, and he
certainly does not realize he is a small dog. He is a constant
companion to my wife, who is by far his favorite, and he insists on
Sunday afternoon naps with her. His other favorite things are eating,
sunbathing in the morning by the window in the kitchen, and chasing
his three cat siblings through the house (in that order). He also
enjoys howling with me when I get home from work in the afternoon --
a behavior he won't show my wife (who doesn't really believe he does
it). It's a male bonding sort of thing.
Although he is twelve years old, Barney doesn't seem to be slowing
down. He survived Hurricane Hugo with us in 1989, has had his knee
surgically repaired, and has survived the indignity of the above
snapshot no worse for wear. We're looking forward to many more years
of constant companionship. Barney is definitely our best Pal.
