About Us
Hampton, the Dog of the Day
Name: Hampton
Age: Two and a half years old
Gender: Male Breed: Dalmatian, Labrador Mix
Home: New Jersey, USA

All about Hampton! Hampton is a part Dalmatian, part Black Labrador mutt. As you can see from his pictures, he is all black, except for a Dalmatian chest. Also, he has a white beard and spotted back toes.

    Hampton's Breed Traits:

Hampton has most of the qualities of a Dalmatian:
  • Short hair that sheds year-round (and is impossible to get out of fibers!).
  • A lean, muscular body. Labs also have the same type of body, but tend to be a bit bulkier looking.
  • An unsatiable need to run and play. Dalmatians were bred to run alongside and under horse-drawn fire carriages. Try and match that type of stamina!
  • The "don't let me get bored" mentality. Dals will try to push the envelope any chance they get - they are quite intelligent. This also makes them very difficult to train. So do it early, and be consistent!
Hampton also has a good amount of Labrador in him:
  • Gentle as a lamb. At 85 pounds, he's a strong dog that loves to play tug. But he has consistently shown he is a gentle and intelligent pup around children. Toys that he insists on tugging with me (his frisbee!), children have gone up to him and taken out of his mouth without so much as a challenge.
  • He has the webbed toes of a Lab - although he still hasn't gone all the way into a body of water (over his chest) since a certain pool incident.
    Hampton's Favorite Game -

This game is fun for those of you with those fur balls known as Cats in the house. Mine has a little hole in the wall it can go in and out of a room called a garage. We all know that Cats are very nervous, so you have to lie very very still and make it think you're sleeping. Then, when they're only inches away, jump up and chase them. If you are lucky enough to catch them, put their head in your mouth and slobber all over them so it looks like they took a bath. It's best to start by laying on your hoomin and using them as a launching pad. Plus you can get the hoomin to make all kinds of wheezing noises if you push off from their stomach.
