Max
is a three-year-old Bichon Havanese which is just normally called
"Havanese." He resides in Apollo Beach, Fl. (Tampa) and
shares his townhouse with his mom, dad, a Persian and a domestic cat.
The Havanese came to the USA back in the '60s from Cuba during the
boat lifts. Only six or seven reached Miami. Since that time they
have been bred under very strict rules to preserve their heritage.
Only weighing nine pounds, his heritage is herding of chickens,
ducks, goats and geese and little Max has proven this trait by
visiting a farm recently. He has traveled every mode of
transportation with the exception of a hot air balloon. His mileage
to date is 15,000 miles in three years, because he goes everywhere
with us.
As his name implies he takes it to the Max. Max is a thinker, doer,
and very intelligent pooch. He is not yippy-yappy, hyper, selfish, or
many of the other traits that you usually associate with small dogs.
With small dogs, one has to get down to their level (they do not like
looking at socks, shoes and ankles), on the floor and look them in
the eye. After six months of me rolling over on the floor Max has
finally got it. He now rolls over!
