Honey, the Dog of the Day
Name: Honey
Age: Twelve years old
Gender: Female Breed: Toy French Poodle Mix
Home: Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, USA

I am owned by a fluffball of a dog. Born of uncertain parentage (though Toy French Poodle is abundantly evident in her features, intelligence and size), Honey came into my life in the arms of my upstairs neighbor. Kay (the neighbor) had found her running wild in a field in the Appalachia region of Eastern Kentucky. From her teeth, the Veterinarian surmised her age to be approximately three months old. Honey is now twelve years old and has changed very little from the frisky, loveable puppy that caught my heart from the first time our eyes met.

She still determines what time I should wake up (and it's nearly always before the alarm goes off!). She ensures that I will wake up by bouncing happily onto my stomach and licking my face, then making a little "waf" sound if I don't respond within an appropriate time (roughly five seconds). For this endeavor, she has trained me to give her a treat. She has also trained me to give her treats whenever I return home from having been - well, anywhere. I draw the line at treats when I return from taking out the trash, though. Honey is a completely loveable, trusting, gentle but feisty companion who completely lives up to the title of "dogess" that my Israeli friend, Gabi, has given her. She carries herself with pride and has the ability to make friends quite easily. My life is richer for the special relationship we share. I hope hers is, too.
