Mo
is a Norwegian Elkhound of unknown age. In the late 80's he showed
up at our homes and "adopted" our two families. Since that
time he has not left our side, remaining a very loyal and faithful
companion. A few years ago, when my father was working on our house
and his ladder gave out from under him, Mo immediately came to his
rescue, licking his face and then laying by his side. When Mo
realized Dad was injured and couldn't get up Mo successfully got the
help Dad desperately needed.
Ever the watchdog, he has diligently guarded our adjacent homes from
predators and unwelcome guests. When either of our families have been
blest with new furry additions, Mo has accepted them without
reservation, eagerly teaching them the do's and don'ts of living with
humans. Mo's love for us is truly unconditional. All Mo asks of us is
a friendly smile, a pat on the head or a tummy rub, and the
occasional milkbone. Mo is truly our "Best Friend."
He is an outdoor dog except if the weather gets really cold - he
really would rather be outside. He does divide his time between our
two homes - we are right next to each other and have made a nice path
for him so he can go back and forth easily or lay in the middle and
watch both places from one spot which he does often. If the weather's
bad he stays on Dick and Betty's porch on his favorite blanket by
their sliding door so he can see them in their living room. Mo is
now overweight but that has developed from his old age and severe
arthritis which has greatly limited his mobility. We don't know how
old he is - the Vet can only tell he's very old - but we do know he
was full grown when he joined our families ten years ago.
