Hi,
my name is Appukuttan. My family consists of my dad, mom, and two
sisters. They adore me. My sisters had chosen names of Greek Gods for
me, but my dad had vetoed it. He had suggested Appukuttan. Kuttan
roughly translated would mean darling. It suits me fine, I feel.
I came to my family about nine years ago, looking more like a
bandicoot than a dog. My sisters used to tell me the story of a pup
that was so black that its mother abandoned it, little realizing that
its heart was gold. I know my heart is gold, so I must have been the
one they had been talking about.
I spent the formative years of my life upsetting my stomach eating
cigarette butts which I had an uncanny knack of finding while going
for walks. Now of course times have changed. My parents have settled
down in a sleepy little town, my sisters have their own jobs in other
places, and I am no longer young. I spend my days following my mom
around who still takes me for a little pup (for mothers, their
children never grow up), and wait for monthly reunions with my
sisters. There is one thing that hasn't changed though - their love
for me.
