Scruffy
is three years old and a Miniature Schnauzer. After years of living in an
apartment my family and I moved to a house and we gave into the kids plea of
"Please can we have a dog!?" I have a blended family with two stepkids who do not
live with us full time and one kid who does. Scruffy lives for the days all our
kids are under one roof! He is such a loyal little animal!
Scruffy is a "people" dog. He gets along much better with people than other dogs,
and he loves all the children in our neighborhood. He knows the basic sit, stay,
shake a paw etc. and he will "dance" in circles on his hind legs for treats. When
the kids are not over, if you mention one of their names, Scruffy will sit and
stare at the door expectantly. When they leave after a weekend visit, he will
howl when he sees their overnight bags come back downstairs. (Schnauzers are very
vocal dogs and this howling is a typical means of expression according to what
I've read) He seems to know when they will arrive and waits as well looking at
the door. During the week days he is a very sucky dog, cuddles up and bugs you to
pet him, follows us around etc, but once the kids are there, who cares about us!
The only time he bothers is if the kids are outside, or not paying attention. He
really needs a lot of attention. One of his favorite games is "Scruffy in the
middle" where the kids toss a toy over his head and he must jump to get it. He
also loves long walks and runs as most dogs do.
