This
picture of Dudley was taken when he was only ten weeks old. Now
he is seventeen months old and he is a wonderful dog. He loves to run and
play and does not mind the cold or snow. One of his favorite games
outdoors is chasing soap bubbles and he always tries to get the ones
just out of reach rather than the ones at his level because he loves
a challenge. He loves going to the park and loves to play with other
dogs. "Daddy" takes him to a dog play group at the park at
6:30 am on weekends! Is that love???
When we can't be outdoors he likes to play "chase" through
the house. He picks up a toy and gives several loud grunts to let us
know he wants us to chase him. Recently, we took care of a darling
four-pound, long-haired Chihuahua for two weeks. Dudley (58 pounds)
was a perfect gentleman, allowing her to nibble at food in his dish
(but he got even by eating all the little treats I gave her which she
would leave around.) It was amazing how gentle he was with her. He
would bring her a toy and try to get her to play chase. She would run
after him, and then he would turn and chase her. If she ran under a
chair or table and whimpered, he would bark playfully, but would not
try to get her. He let her play with any of his toys, but if he
touched one of hers, she would take it away from him. However, since
she insisted on spending most of her time on someone's lap, he was
sometimes sad and withdrawn, but was never aggressive toward her.
We still stay in touch with Dudley's biological mother and siblings
and plan a get-together in the near future. English Springer Spaniels
are a wonderful breed. They are fun, loving, and very easily trained.
Dudley came into our family shortly after the loss of our first
Springer, Digger, who was fourteen years old. No dog will ever really take
the place of Digger in my heart, but Dudley has helped to ease the
pain and now has his own place in my heart.
