Buffy, the Dog of the Day
Name: Buffy
Age: Nine years old
Gender: Female Breed: Terrier Mix
Home: Ohio, USA

Buffy is an approximately nine-year-old mixed breed terrier. She lives in the great State of Ohio in the United States. Buffy is a "rescued" shelter dog. The day that her "parents" went to select a dog, they walked several dogs before they came to her. They thought she looked sweet and docile, so they took her for a walk to "get acquainted" with her. She was quiet and not very peppy, so they had pretty much decided against selecting her. But when they went to put her back in her kennel at the shelter, as "dad" was closing the latch on the kennel door, she put her paw out through the cage and placed it directly upon his. She looked up at him with pleading eyes that just melted his heart. (She had chosen them!) "Mom" was a shelter volunteer until her death from Cancer in 1997. In memory of her dedication to shelter animals, there is a bronze statue of Buffy and an empty pair of "Mom's" shoes in the new garden at the entrance of the shelter. This garden was the dream of the late Mrs. A. She wanted to honor the volunteers who work so diligently and lovingly for the Shelter. The plaque reads:

The Shoes of a Dedicated Volunteer
... difficult to fill

These shoes were once worn to walk
the abandoned and the forgotten...
Worn to clean kennels,
to carry food to the hungry,
to take cuddly and loving animals to visit
shut-ins and the infirm.
These shoes have walked many miles.
Sadly, they are empty now.
Another pair of shoes sits quietly in a closet...
Is it your closet?

These shoes were worn by Kathy A.
on her many journeys of love with her friend,
Buffy, a shelter dog.

Buffy is an excellent companion and has proven to have much more
"pep" and personality than ever imagined. She has trained her
"parents", and after four years, is the undisputed "woman
in charge" in the household.
