A
few months after my husband and I purchased our new home, for his
birthday, I wrapped up a collar and leash and a note that read... and
the dog of your choice. We had decided to adopt a rescue and we were
looking at Yellow Labs. That's when we came into contact with "Friends
For Pets" a Labrador, Weimaraner and Dalmatian rescue located in
Southern California. We attended the next pet adoption and there he was,
a twelve week old Dalmatian sitting all alone with a sign hanging around
his neck that read "Major" (his temporary name). He had one blue eye and
one brown eye, hence, the name we gave him, Bowie (after David Bowie).
After a thorough home inspection and despite the endless stories from
unenlightened people about how hyper Dalmatians can be, we decided that
we just couldn't live without him and we adopted him. It has been four
years now and neither my husband nor I could ever love him more. He's
the most cuddly, playful, loyal and well behaved dog I have ever known.
Bowie spends rainy days, hot days, at this point most days inside (he
prefers inside) with his three best cat friends, Leo, Gilly and Mouse.
They adore him as much as we do, constantly following him everywhere,
head-butting him (I believe they are marking him as theirs) and napping
with him. His warm and wonderful spirit has truly changed all of our
lives for the best. My heart melts when I look at him. He is my best
friend.
