Here
are Niner and Pepper - the "dynamic duo!" We had to send
these two wonderful pets as a twosome, because they operate as a
fine-tuned partnership! Niner is a five year old fawn Chihuahua. We
rescued him when he was about six months old in December of '95. We are
privileged to be his adoptive family. When we first saw him, he looked
at us as if to say, "I sure could use a friend." He was skin
and bones when we got him. He adopted Scarlet O'Hara's motto, "As
God as my witness, I'll never be hungry again." He does have
"food issues". He is a loving and caring dog. His job is to
guard the house and he takes that job very seriously. His snuggle ball
is by the windows by the front door. No one passes by our house or comes
to the door that is not announced.
When he was two years old, we got Pepper, a chocolate Chihuahua, so that
Niner could have a dog of his own. They are wonderful companions. Pepper
helps Niner guard, providing backup when needed. But his main function
around our home is to be a companion. If a lap is available he will fill
it. If anyone is asleep in the bed at any time, they never have to worry
about being alone-Pepper will always "sacrifice" and cuddle.
They share their home with a nine-year-old Siamese cat who was not
terribly excited to have them come into her home. She did welcome Pepper
more warmly than she did Niner as Pepper looked at her with love in his
eyes and ran up and gave her a big kiss when he first arrived in the
house. How could she not fall for him? Needless to say, these animals
have brought great joy to our lives. We are empty nesters with no
grandchildren and these boys are very special.
