Folly
is an eight year-old English Springer Spaniel. She was not only
the runt but had twisted legs. Being deformed and not of 'show quality',
the breeders planned to put her to sleep. Bringing her to our home, she
became our first child and quite a daddy's girl. He worked with her
relentlessly, giving her tons of attention along with massages,
acupressure, and what can only be called 'doggie yoga'. Today Folly is
the oldest of three. She is only 15 pounds but can chase balls with the
best of them. On command she sings, begs(don't they all), rolls over,
and fetches like a pro. Her special talent is treeing squirrels and
killing snakes (no, we are not thrilled with these skills). Age has
brought on the ailments that come from her difficult beginnings, yet she
holds her head high. It's unlikely that Folly will live long into old
age so we cherish every day with her. This brown-eyed beauty resides in
Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. She growls at trucks displaying the
Confederate flag (we think she would like it if it were in a museum),
and best of all-she has softened the heart of a hardened old man- her
daddy.
