About Us
Clancy, the Dog of the Day
Name: Clancy
Age: One year old
Gender: Male Breed: Labrador Retriever
Home: Chicago, Illinois, USA

This is Clancy at two months, and eleven months. Clancy was part of a marriage proposal on St. Patrick's Day, 1999. How could you say no to a guy holding an adorable puppy and a ring?! Since then he has grown, and grown....and grown. He is just a year old and 110 pounds, and still growing. He's definitely the biggest lab we've seen. He is also the most mellow. We call him the Gentle Giant. Although he has his hyper moments, like when running around with other dogs or when we have visitors, the majority of the time he walks around the house really slow...especially when he's fetching a ball. While most retrievers go crazy when you throw a ball, Clancy looks at you like "Now why did you go and do that?", looks at the ball, then slowly saunters over to pick it up. He doesn't bark too much, just at things that are strange to him...such as baby strollers, rollerbladers, snow blowers, rakes etc. He was born with extra droopy eyes that are greenish brown with pink around the edges and a pink nose. Very uncommon for a yellow lab. But they get you every time! How can you discipline a dog that looks as if he's always about to cry?! While most labs love the water, Clancy, well, he'll only go in when he's good and ready, on his own time. One of our favorite odd characteristics: when he wants to get your attention he makes a strange grunting noise, then pounds his front paw on the ground as if he's a little kid pouting. Very odd dog, but we love him!
