My
pal gal Etta is a three and a half years old Chesapeake Bay
Retriever. We live in upstate NY and she is my steady companion,
especially on the many and varied outdoor activities I enjoy, from
simple hikes, to canoe trips, to vigorous cross country ski treks, and
much, much more. She will swim herself to exhaustion and paddles right
alongside me at our favorite pond. Her enthusiasm for everything we do
is a constant lesson to me to try to live in the moment, enjoy what I
have, and share it with others. Her dedication to me is boundless, but
she will love anyone who beckons her to them. She behaves so well in
public that she has been allowed to attend meetings of a board of
directors that I serve on. But my favorite thing is at the end of a long
day, she will always rest her head in my lap as we wind down with a book
or a tv show or movie, and she is there at my bedside when I wake every
morning.
