This
is our dear, sweet Bella. She is a thirteen-year-old Shepherd Mix
residing in Rochester, NY. My husband rescued Bella from the shelter the
day before she was scheduled to be put to sleep. Shortly after, she got
loose and was hit by a car and the only choices were to put her to sleep
or amputate the leg. She was up and around that same night, minus her
left front leg. Bella has cheated death twice now, and given her age, we
wish she could do it again. She is the strongest living creature I have
ever met, including both humans and animals. When Bella was a few years
younger she could outrun rabbits and caught them sometimes, sad to say,
but not an easy feat for a three legged dog! Stairs, hills, or even
swimming were not problems for her. With all of her aches and pains
brought on with age, she still enjoys life so completely. She reigns as
Queen at our house over one other dog, two cats, and a Quaker parakeet,
not to mention two kids and Mom and Dad! Bella is not doing so well
these days and we know her time is coming closer. I would like to pay
tribute to our very special girl who is loved so much.
