My
pet's name is McKenna. She had her 5th birthday this May. She is an
Australian Shepherd. We reside in Laguna Niguel, CA (Southern
California, Orange County). McKenna is a special girl because we found
each other through the Australian Shepherd Rescue six months ago (I
adopted her in November 99). She was orphaned by her previous owner
(died in a plane crash) and was abused by her owner's boyfriend. Her
temperament was very shy, skittish, a barker and very scared of
everyone. Although she is still scared of strangers and loud noises, she
has come a long way. She now is more receptive to strangers (accepts
them within the first ten minutes, if they pose no threat), which before
strangers couldn't get within 5 feet of her without her throwing a
barking fit. She used to be inclined to bark at males more, but now she
treats all strangers the same. Once a sad dog, she is now happy and
active with a sparkle in her eye. We walk together each week an average
of 12-15 miles, we kayak, and we camp and just hang around together. We
also participated in the local beginning dog obedience. She won first
place by a landslide! We are enrolled to participate in Dog Agility this
July. She is incredibly intelligent, loyal and loving. My best friend
and her have mind wars all the time (usually McKenna wins). Her
intelligence, beauty, stubbornness, loving nature and extreme attitude
are all contributors to what makes McKenna so special to everyone she
comes in contact with.
