I've
always wanted a full size Doberman, but I've lived in a condo for
the past few years and it wasn't practical. With Jorge, however, I get
the best of both worlds. A small dog that thinks he weighs in at about
120 pounds. I think he knows his limits though. We live near a small pond
that attracts ducks and geese over the winter months. Jorge is
positively ecstatic when this happens since he dearly loves to chase
anything. The ducks of course oblige him by squawking and flying in to
the water (I've never seen a bigger smile on a dog than when Jorge
does this, it's like he has completed his mission in life). When they
have had enough though (especially the bigger geese) they stand their
ground and it's Jorge that ends up running for his life. That's OK
with him though too, I think he just likes to run period. Jorge had
been to Puppy Pre-School and knows how to sit and lay. I also taught
him to 'shake'. Before I leave the house now, I have to bribe him not
to bark by giving him a treat. Since this is an opportune time to
practice his 'tricks' I started making him go thru his routine. Now he
know the routine so well, I don't have to say anything, as soon as I
get the treat out of the jar he sits and sticks his paw out. Then as
soon as I shake it he lays down. Guess it's time to start working on
some other things. I never thought I could love a small dog this much,
but the combination of attitude and clown just does me in.
