Fritz
is special because he arrived on my door step one night, a stray that had
been dropped off by some unloving person. He was very thin, five pounds, and
yelling his head off. I opened the door, he ran in, and has been with me
for two years now. He is so loving, and as you can see, has a real -
don't mess with me attitude - I live in the country with rattlesnakes
and coyotes, so my vet is surprised he made it. I'm sure he was meant to
be my darling little companion. He is truly a wonderful little guy. He
is very smart.
Fritz arrived at our house about one year before my thirteen-year-old
Shih-tzu passed away. He brought so much life to her in that final year.
They played all the time and kept each other company while I was at
work. The night she went to Rainbow Bridge, as she lay on her blanket,
Fritz sat quietly beside her and wined a mournful cry, while looking at
her and then back at me. He knew she was gone, and knew my heart was
broken, as was his. After rapping her in her blanket, we sat on my bed
and he curled up beside us both until morning. Fritz missed her so much
that he didn't eat for several days. He was so alone in the house that I
decided to find him a companion. I also missed Gizmo so I started
searching the net and found Kerry, a Chihuahua and Yorkshire terrier
mix. Fritz just loves to play with Kerry and they are best friends, but
Fritz wears the pants in this house. Kerry doesn't mind at all and
whatever Fritz wants is O.K. with him.
The other thing about Fritz is that he looks at me sometimes like I
might be a little crazy. We now have rescued a total of eleven dogs.
Almost all from shelters and each one was going to be put to sleep. He
seems to know when they are new or sick and tries to give them room and
doesn't mind the extra attention I have to give them. I have found
homes for four and still have seven. Fritz is very tolerate of everyone
and shares his home willingly. I have five small dogs inside and two
large outside. His favorite is still Kerry and they will always be best
buds.
