About Us
Jake, the Dog of the Day
Name: Jake
Age: Seven months old
Gender: Male Breed: American Cocker Spaniel
Home: Grover Beach, California, USA

This is Jake, one of four American Cocker Spaniels that we own. Jake is a seven month old chocolate and white parti colored American Cocker Spaniel. Jake is very loyal... he loves to be wherever we are. He would never even think about running away if we go out in the front yard without a leash. Jake was named after the 1991 country hit song "Feed Jake" by the band "Pirates of the Mississippi".

Jake's one tremendously special feature that makes him irresistible to almost everyone who meets him: He's the cutest thing on four legs!!! Seriously, it's like when you see a Koala bear in a tree at the zoo and all you want to do is hug it... only in Jake's case, he doesn't climb up the tree to get away from you, he jumps in your lap because he wants to be hugged! Jake loves affection and wants to be the center of attention. If he sees any other pet getting attention instead of him, he will come demand that you love him instead. Yes, he does actually know a trick... something that none of our dogs have dared to try, too. We have two large igloo dog houses in our back yard, and they sit about four feet apart. Jake likes to jump up on the roof of one, and then jump over to the roof of the other. If you ask him to, he will jump back and forth from the top of one dog house to the other for quite a long time! I actually have it on video, and you can watch it right on your computer by going over to Jake's web page.

Jake also loves to go in the car to pick up our kids from school each afternoon. When we pull in to the school parking lot, he starts to get very excited... you can see his tail go crazy, and he starts to pace back and forth on the seat until the kids finally appear and get in the car. Then he smothers them with kisses, if they will let him! Some days they just can't handle it for some reason.

In December of last year I found out that I was sick. I've been off work for several months while undergoing treatment. Jake has been a tremendous joy to me at a time when it probably would have been easy to get depressed. Any time I need a lift, I just go out in the back yard and play ball with Jake and our other Cocker Spaniels. And any time I need an even bigger lift, I just take Jake to a park or other public place and watch all the people just go nuts over him.
