My
dog's official AKC name is Col. Spiegel M. Montcliffe I, but we all
call him "Spiegel" or "Little Monkey." My neighbor
calls him "Little Man." Spiegel is an 18 month old Italian
Greyhound. He lives in Little Rock Arkansas, but was born in Kansas,
was bought and raised in his formative years in New York, and will
soon become a Florida resident! He is quite the world traveler!
Spiegel is special to so many people. Whenever we go out walking,
people literally cannot walk past him without stopping to pet him and
ask about him. He has many, many friends in the neighborhood, old,
young, male, female, of all races and nationalities. Spiegel's most
special talent is his ability to make people laugh. Because he's very
small and very fast and loves the sound of his own bark, he charms
people by alternately charging towards them barking and running away
barking still. He can jump five feet straight up into the air with no
running start, and makes use of this talent by launching himself into
the nearest comfortable looking arms. While I am in graduate school
this year, the stress of all the work has really piled up on my
classmates and I. But when they come over to see Spiegel, or when I
come home at night after a long day, all the stress is forgotten while
we get a good laugh and a few friendly nuzzles and doggie kisses.
Spiegel's favorite toys are: 1. "Vicious puppy," a little stuffed dog
with a rattle inside. He will play fetch with "Vicious Puppy" for
hours. 2. His other favorite toy is his cat, Buster. He has gone to
great lengths to convince Buster that he is a dog instead of a feline.
He and Buster have grand times together, playing, rough-housing, and
getting into trouble. Finally, Spiegel is a great dancer. His owner
sings "I want to Fly like a Spiegel" and holds him up in the air and
flies him around the room. His other owner holds him and they dance
around the living room to any song that moves them. If either owner
dares to put him down, he does the "Spiegel Hop," jumping and dancing
and barking until he gets more!
