This
is my beautiful dog, Cassie. We got Cassie when she was just six
weeks old and had been run over by a car. She had been abused by her
former owner and was very malnourished and sick. Due to the accident she
had a displaced pelvis that, if not fixed surgically, would not allow
her to ever walk again. Since our family had just lost our most recent
dog, we paid for the surgery and brought our new puppy home. We fought
over her name, but eventually settled with Cassie, short for
"Hop-Along Cassidy," because she could only wobble around for
the first few months we had her. Cassie has been grateful to the family
since the day she became a part of it. She will lick your hand if you
are upset and snuggle up with you in the morning when the alarm goes
off. She defies the saying, "You can't teach an old dog new
tricks," seeing as just recently we taught her how to roll over.
Now that I have moved away to college I only get to see Cassie every
once in a while. It always feels nice to go home and cuddle with a dog
that gives you such love and devotion, even after all of the haircuts,
dress-ups and baths that you gave her over the years. I am proud to have
such a blessing in disguise that I can tell my children about when I
grow older.
