Fannie Mae, the Dog of the Day
Name: Fannie Mae
Age: Deceased, Fourteen years old
Gender: Female Breed: Australian Shepherd
Home: Jacksonville, Florida, USA

What a lucky day it was back in August of 1988, when this stray Aussie walked into my life. I had never even heard of an Australian Shepherd and my "found sign" listed her as a mixed breed. I found her a home at the end of our street but she knew something I didn't - that somewhere it was written that we were meant to be together forever. When she managed to get herself returned to me, I adopted her. A trip to the vet revealed to me that she was a certain breed. We had twelve wonderful years of true companionship and affection. With my husband and me in our RV, she traveled from Florida to Newfoundland, from California to Alaska, and all points between. Together we walked at least 3500 miles. My husband joked that her legs used to be much longer but that I walked them off. Her only desire was to be my side and when she was, she was at peace. She was always and forever my loyal, trusting and loving friend, by my side whenever possible. Her recent death has been extremely traumatic and painful, but I cherish her memory which will live in my heart forever. This is my tribute to you, Fannie Mae, the best dog in the world.
