Niko, the Dog of the Day
Name: Niko
Age: Eight months old
Gender: Female Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Home: North Hills, California, USA

Hi, I'm Niko! Nice to meet you. My mommy and daddy saved me from the dog shelter, so we're not too sure what I'm mixed with. No specific meaning of my name, but my mommy seems to always call me Niko Baby! Why? Don't know! My favorite game is fetch. But the best part of that game is that I don't fetch a ball or a Frisbee, I like to fetch empty water bottles. I don't know very many tricks yet, I'm only eight months, but I do sit, lay down, stay, and bark very well when told.

I saved Niko from a dog shelter. I didn't search very long before it was love at first sight. We brought her home when she was only two months old. She was the cutest thing. We have already graduated form obedience class about three months ago. Now we are trying to teach her new tricks, like roll over, how to stand straight up and walk on her hind legs, and play hide and seek. That part she really likes much more than the roll over tricks. For some reason, she loves to play with empty water bottles. She has just about any type of toy that you can think of, but she'll always run after and play with the empty water bottle. She also loves to run after the laser. We point the laser on the floor, walls and ceilings, and so determined, she tries to get a hold of it. But after 40 minutes of chasing, she gives up.

When friends come over, they are intimidated by her size and automatically assume that she's a vicious dog. Total opposite! She is the friendliest dog. She loves people. It is automatic to her to turn over on her back, and ask friends to rub her tummy. She loves to give and receive kisses all the time. Of course, people realize she's friendly after a few minutes. The best experience that I have had with my Niko, is that she is the bestest friend that I have ever had. She is very protective of me, watches over me when we are alone, and takes very good care of our home when we aren't there. She always seems to know when I've had a rough day at work, and manages to make me smile and forget about it all. Whenever I and my boyfriend get into little arguments she seems to always pick my side. She doesn't let us argue, she barks to make us stop, which in return, eases the whole situation between us all.

She is my first dog, and the best one by far. And that is the best experience that I can ask for, but we do look for many fun times ahead of us.
