Ladd
is a full blooded Collie. His father was a Champion Show Dog
(Meadows Notorious). I have never shown Ladd, but we have gone to
several dog shows and I have come to the conclusion that Ladd is a
winner none-the-less. I got him when he was three weeks old. He was
the runt of the litter, but he was the most active of the bunch. He
was completely house broken in just ten days. I never used a
kennel or crate. He doesn't even know what one is.
Ladd is now 93 pounds. The breeder tells me that she made a big
mistake by letting him go seven and a half years years ago. Ladd is
the smartest dog I have ever owned. He helps me do yard work... for
instance he grabs one end of downed tree branches helps me carry them
down to a pile to be burned. He has the most gentle manor of any dog I
have ever known, and at the same time he is extremely brave, curious,
and bold. He somehow knows when someone in my family does not feel
well. That person always gets extra attention from him without the
asking.
I am convinced that Ladd does not think he is a dog. He listens to you
when you speak, and he obeys my commands without hesitation. Last year
my mom's Collie, Patty, suddenly died of an heart attack. Ladd gave us
all a little scare, because he would not eat for about two weeks. He
would just lay at Patty's grave side for hours. I have never witnessed
a dog in mourning like that. To this day, if we mention the word
"Patty" in conversation, Ladd turns his head or perks up because he
still recognizes her name. We try not to forget and talk about the old
girl when he is around, because it seems when Ladd hears her name, he
starts to look for her. Today Ladd is very alive, healthy, and happy.
He is the best dog that anyone could ever hope to have. He is as much
a part of our family as any "human" could be. I love him, and if you
could just see how he looks at our family members... you would see the
love in his eyes for us.
