Pup
is a very special little girl! My husband, a Doctoral Candidate at
the University of Toledo, found her in a building one day as he was
leaving a class. She was just a tiny, silky soft puppy, and so
cheerful! He brought her home, so that we could try to find her
owners, but to no avail - signs, newspaper ads - nothing worked. We
already had two greyhounds at that point, so we decided to find her a
different home. As she was over six months old, we had her spayed
before advertising for her adoption. A few weeks after her surgery,
while she was still recovering, we noticed that she was walking funny,
and wasn't able to jump up on our laps anymore. We took her to the vet
for x-rays, and found out that she has a pretty severe case of hip
displaysia - pretty rare for a 20-pound dog! We already had started
running an ad to find her a home, and lots of people responded, but
everyone lost interest real quick when they found out that she would
need an expensive surgery within a few years. Needless to say, we let
the ad run out and didn't bother to renew it.
Pup is such a good little dog, and everyone who meets her is just
infatuated with her looks and personality. The above pictures were
taken when Pup had only been with us a couple of days. Since then, she
has doubled in size and weight (from 10 to 20 pounds) and has
developed huge stand-up ears - like a Corgi (although, in general, she
looks most like a Schipperke). She is our little lap dog, and can't
stand to go on car rides unless she's curled up on a lap! She rules
the roost over our greyhounds (who now number three), and gets around
very well despite her problems. She loves to run and play, and her
favorite thing in the world is wrestling with my parents' Cocker
Spaniel, Checkers, who is Pup's best friend. We love our little Pup,
and are glad that the Fates dropped her into our lives. We are glad
that she is here to stay!
