This
handsome young man is my chow/collie/husky pup. His name is
Azizi Kioko which means "precious happy child." He arrived at the
local SPCA shelter, where I work, when he was four weeks old,
accompanied by his seven siblings and his mother and father. It's not
very often you have the benefit of seeing both parents of mixed
breed dogs, so I had an idea of how big he would get and what he
would look like.
Because the pups were too little to be at the shelter, my
wonderful mother actually agreed to foster the mother dog and her
pups for a month until they were old enough to be adopted out. I
had my eye on Kioko from the moment I saw his pudgy little self,
and even though they all came into the shelter literally crawling
with fleas, all the pups cleaned up to be beautiful little boys
and girls - four of each.
They all were successfully adopted, parents as well, and Kioko
has turned out to be a handsome, friendly, well socialized young
dog. He was a pretty easy puppy, sleeping all through the night
by the third night I had him in my home. He goes to work with me
every day, so he loves the car and is totally comfortable
traveling. This picture is taken at the shelter and although you
can't read his bandana, it says "I'm an Adorable Adoptee". He
gets along well with my two cats and even lets my rats have short
piggy back rides. When I moved into a new apartment last summer,
I hadn't intended to get a dog so soon; but I don't regret the
moment I decided to make Kioko my 'happy child'. He's certainly
made me a happy dog mum!
