Snickers
was born in Oahu, Hawaii, and came to Livonia, Michigan at
age two. My son acquired Snickers while in the Navy and brought
him here between assignments. We fell in love with him and never
let him go.
Snickers was one of those one in a million dogs that captured the
hearts of everyone who met him. In early life Snickers shared our
home with another large dog named Ninja, named so because she
looked very dangerous. Snickers however dominated the scene and
would always make Ninja back down and surrender her bowl of food
for his. After Ninja's death four years ago, Snickers seemed to give
up all his "snippy" ways and turned into a "lover". Our
grandchildren petted him and played with him with never a fear of
reprisals. I describe him as "Gentle as a lamb, with the heart of
a wolf". He loved nature and his walks in the park. He was the
worlds best traveler, never barking in the car or causing a
commotion, just sleeping until our next stop. Then he would go
into action on the end of the leash or on his own when it was
safe to release him, running and sniffing, checking everything
out, always glancing over his shoulder to see if I was still
there. He loved to have other dogs come visit or encounter one in
the park. His favorite things to do as a young dog was to chase
things that were tossed, especially apples, sticks and Frisbees.
Snickers was put to rest April 8, 2002.
