Satay, the Dog of the Day
Name: Satay
Age: Eleven years old
Gender: Female Breed: Dog
Home: Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA

Satay is a loving, intelligent but somewhat lazy girl. She was born in Flour Bluff, Texas right on the Gulf of Mexico and when we got her the owners said she was a Lab/Chow mix because the owners had male chows in their yard as well as her mother, a purebred female German Shepherd. We soon learned her pedigree was misreported when we took her swimming at Padre Island National Seashore the next day. She is a master swimmer, magically transforming herself from a calm and docile doggie to an enthusiastic whirling dervish in the water. She has the webbed paws of a lab and that was what clinched our figuring out that she wasn't part Chow. She knows 35 words in English, ranging from "leash" and "outside" to "treat" and "cookie". In fact the picture shows her acknowledgement of the word, cookie. These days her favorite pastimes are (in priority order): eating, sleeping, swimming and hiking.
