Karmaletta
was adopted through the Florida Jack Russell Terrier Rescue
group. She has been an absolute delight and a wonderful addition to
our family. When we learned of the Russell Rescue on the WEB, we
began to investigate the possibility of adopting. After several months
of the process (to include our Vet dragging his feet in responding to
the screening committee) we were approved for adoption. The foster
Mom in Zephryhills, FL forwarded photos of the JRT's available. It was
a no-brainer... Karmaletta was absolutely the orphan of choice out of a
selection of fifteen.
From the trip to pick up Karmaletta, it has been a real delight to
have her in our lives. She has no bad habits and blends in well with
our mobile life style. Her only quirk is she is extremely cold-natured
and spends long periods in front of the fireplace or sitting over a
heating duct.
In the twelve months prior to our beginning the adoption process, we had
lost a Cocker Spaniel to a stroke, a golden Lab to Cancer and a blue front
parrot to liver disease (due to the oil in sunflower seeds). It was
difficult for my spouse to accept the idea of moving forward with any
animal after all the hurt. Additionally, we travel in our motorhome
for 250-300 days a year and we had to careful that the animal had to
be compatible to the close quarters of a 40' coach. Karmaletta is a
perfect size for those confined quarters and is quite the guard-dog in
protection of the family. We are the caregivers for Judy's 80-year-old
father and I felt the right animal would bring him much comfort.
Karmaletta has proven to be the absolute best companion for my
father-in-law we could have ever hoped for. As a matter of fact, on
some days Karmaletta's company is the only thing that brings him any
comfort.
Karmaletta has learned to retrieve her toys based on color. Also, she
quickly learns new tricks and constantly wants to please family. Her
most unique trick is where she places a racket ball on my shoe and
waits for me to kick it into the air, wherein she will catch it in mid
air about 90% of the time. We truly appreciate what the JRTCA
Russell Rescue does for the breed. Just the thought of Karma... or one
of the breed... being misunderstood, in the wrong home, or being
mistreated is unbearable. Finally, we have shared the JRT story with
many folks throughout our travels and I am aware of at least two other
families who have taken advantage of the rescue effort. What a
wonderful service to the breed!
